I had heard this was the case from others and I’m very glad you posted that info. I don’t think people are believing their own eye’s or their fellow man. FOX is one very big reason for the prevailing attitude and it was the very same way in the L.A. Protests as well. The Cops there where insane and laughing about gunning people down.

From what I personally witnessed in Seattle during the WTO protest: The first rubber bullets and tear gas were fired at the Ecumenical Council who were staging a permitted (as in they had a permit) registered sit-down “pray-in.” Priests and Nuns from a dozen different faiths were seated in a circle, holding hands and singing. The police completely surrounded them without saying anything. Then one of the officers got on a bull-horn and said “You have five seconds to disperse.” Keep in mind these people were seated, mostly cross-legged and holding hands, and were completely surrounded. There was no where they could have gone, even if given the chance. They weren’t, however, as the first barrage of bullets and tear gas came less than a second after the “announcement.” Take your FOX-inspired view of these events and shove it – until you have actually been in the thick f it and seen it happening you can’t speak from anything but what you are spoon-fed from the media.

No right is absolute. People’s rights often conflict, the “yelling fire in a theater” being the most widely known example. But there are others as well. You may exercise your rights as long as you do not infringe upon the rights of others. You have the right to peacefully assemble, but not anywhere at any time no matter the effect upon others.

No matter how important your cause may be to you, you don’t have a right to take other people’s rights away to express yourself. Your rights are no more important than mine, and vice-versa. It’s called equality under the law, and it must be enforced or we lose our rights to any mob willing to impose itself.

You may agree with the people in this example, but what if they were a group/cause you despised, imposing themselves upon you? What if you missed a job interview because they blocked traffic, and you lost the opportunity? That could effect your life forever. All because they couldn’t find a way to speak their mind while respecting their fellow citizens’ rights too.

Your comments are entirely misguided. Your justification of violence against the citizens of the United States makes me sad and question your patriotism.

Never should an officer injur a civilian unless his safety or the safety of others is in jeopardy.

Your suggestion that they may have been violating some law is a valid one, but in that case a peaceful and non-violent arrest is the appropriate action for the police to take. I don’t knoew the full story behind these events, nor do you. In that case the only appropriate action is to question, not accept.

Please, for your own and your posterity’s wellfare, think not “It’s probably ok.” but rather “I will make sure that it is right”
