U.S. Taxpayers “Iced” (literally) for $36M

In what has got to be one of the most ludicrous uses of taxpayers dollars in recent history, it was revealed today that, for the past 2 years, refrigerated trailers have sat idle which contained ice. That’s right…ice. But what’s worse is the fact you, the American taxpayers have paid for that ice which has now been determined “unfit for human consumption” and will be melted by FEMA.

Why? Well the original use of the ice was for the victims of Katrina. Truckers were paid $900 a day to drive the cargo from points around the country. Then when the Katrina victims had all the ice they needed, the Army Corp of Engineers decided to hold onto the ice in case it was needed for another disaster. So for 2 years it sat in those trailers on a yard in Massachusetts, all nice and safe, while we footed another whopping bill totaling $12.5 million in storage fees.

Total cost to taxpayers…$36 MILLION DOLLARS.

Would have made for one heck of a snowcone party…
